Best units by faction and target
The same simulation, unit by unit: every faction's units ranked against each target, per point.
Every board, with its leader and the durability rankings, is on the Unit Leaderboards.
How List Check works
Paste one list and List Check measures it against six set targets and the builds winning now.
What it scores
Paste a GW app export or a WTC list. List Check reads each unit's models and wargear, and who leads whom from the Attached Units block, then scores the list against six real datasheets: 20 Cadian Shock Troops, 5 Terminators, an Impulsor, a Leman Russ Battle Tank, an Exocrine and a Knight Paladin. Each score adds up how much of the target each unit removes in its better phase, so 1.4 means 1.4 Leman Russes a turn; every pairing is rolled 2,000 times. The bar comes from recent winning lists from Meta Merge, scored the same way per 1,000 points, and a target where your list sits in their bottom quarter is a gap. Your list is checked in your browser and is not uploaded.
Rules and situations
Army rules, detachment rules and datasheet abilities come from tables checked by hand against the rule text, one row per rule, and the page lists the ones that applied. Switches set the situation: charged, on an objective, riled up and so on. A switch appears only when something in your list or a target reacts to it, and it names what it changes. List Check does not use stratagems, enhancement abilities, once-per-battle or psychic-roll abilities, or mortal wounds.
Gaps and the field
For each gap, List Check tries every unit in your faction and names the cheapest that would close it on its own, in the loadout winning lists give it. Against the five most-played winning builds, and any other you add, it plans one turn of fire and names the enemy units your list struggles to remove. The same engine also ranks every unit of every faction on its own, by what it kills per 100 points and by how hard it is to kill, on the Unit Leaderboards.
§ Questions
- How do I check whether my 40k army list can deal with Knights?
- Paste the list and press Check list. The Knight row shows how many Knight Paladins your list removes in a turn, and whether that is below the bottom quarter of winning lists.
- Does List Check use my detachment rules?
- Yes, where they change hit, wound, save, damage or attack rolls. Each rule is a row in a hand-checked table, and the page lists the rules that applied to your units. Stratagems are not used.
- Is my 40k army list competitive?
- List Check compares your list with recent winning tournament lists, per 1,000 points. A target where your list sits in their bottom quarter is marked as a gap, with the cheapest units in your faction that would close it.
- What are the best anti-tank units in my faction?
- Each faction has a page ranking all its units against tanks, light vehicles, Knights, monsters, elite infantry and hordes per 100 points, from the same simulation. They are linked under Best units on this page and on the Unit Leaderboards.
- How is List Check different from Kill Grid?
- Kill Grid pits two lists against each other, unit by unit, without army or detachment rules. List Check measures one list against set targets and the field, with those rules applied.
