How Triad builds a colour scheme
Pick one paint and Triad finds the closest paints a third of the colour wheel away on each side.
What you pick
Choose a range: Citadel Base and Layer, Vallejo, Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic, Two Thin Coats, or All ranges. Triad uses only opaque and metallic paints and skips Contrast, Shade, Speedpaint, Xpress and washes. Coloured swatches run in hue order; black, white, most greys and silvers sit under neutrals / metallics. Filter by name, then click your dominant: the paint that covers most of the model. To find a paint's equivalents across brands instead, use the Paint Matcher.
Finding the other two
Triad turns your dominant’s hue 120 degrees each way round a perceptual colour wheel (OKLCh) and keeps its lightness and chroma. It then matches each new colour to the nearest paints in your range by CIEDE2000 colour difference. In the Citadel range, Mephiston Red gives Warpstone Glow as support and Altdorf Guard Blue as accent.
What you get
A bar previews the 60/30/10 split. Each role shows its paint’s name, range and hex code, plus a product code for Vallejo. Support and accent each list up to three alternates; click one to swap it in. Swatches are single hex values, so check them against the pot. The page address holds your picks, ready to bookmark or share.

- What is a triadic colour scheme for miniatures?
- A triadic scheme uses three colours 120 degrees apart on the colour wheel. Triad splits them 60/30/10, with the dominant on most of the model and the accent on small details.
- Can a Warhammer colour scheme generator use only the paints I own?
- Partly. Triad draws every suggestion from the range you pick, but can’t see which pots you own. If you lack the support or accent, try an alternate.
- Why won’t a triad work with black, white or silver paint?
- Black, white and silver have no hue to rotate, so Triad shows ‘neutral detected’. Most greys and some muted browns, greens and flesh tones do the same. Coloured metallics such as Retributor Armour work.
- Can a miniature colour scheme generator mix paint brands?
- Yes. Choose All ranges and Triad searches Citadel, Vallejo, Army Painter and Two Thin Coats together, so a Citadel red can return Vallejo or Army Painter alternates. Pick one brand and all three come from it.
